Lake Chala is a crater lake located in a caldera on the border of Tanzania and Kenya. It is situated on the eastern rim of Mount Kilimanjaro, approximately 48km (30mi) from Moshi town, which takes about an hour to reach. Depending on the season, the lake's color varies from deep blue to turquoise and green, surrounded by a 100m (2,000ft) high crater rim. The lake is fed by groundwater streams from Kilimanjaro, which have been injected and discharged underground for about 10 million years.

>> Meet our professional guide, who will provide a trip briefing before we drive to Lake Chala. Upon arrival, we will begin with a nature bushwalk to the dried riverbeds and then to the viewpoint. After this, we will proceed to the lakeshore for further exploration.

The bushwalk will last 2 to 4 hours, depending on our pace. This scenic walk offers stunning views of Mt. Kilimanjaro in the background and the nearby country of Kenya. After the walk, we will have lunch at the Lake Chala Lodge, which provides a spectacular view of the lake and, on clear days, the peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Canoeing is available at an additional cost for those interested.

Later in the afternoon, after a day full of adventure, we will begin our journey back to the lodge.
