Day 1: Marangu gate to Mandara hut
>> After a hearty breakfast at 6 AM 3hours driver will take you to the Marangu Gate on the eastern side of Kilimanjaro, where you will register with the national park authorities before commencing your hike. As you venture through the lush rainforest be on the lookout for majestic Eucalyptus trees, diverse birdlife and playful Colobus monkeys. Given the potential for wet and muddy conditions at these lower elevations, It's advisable to equip yourself with gaiters and trekking poles. While shorts and t-shirts may suffice, ensure you have rain gear and warmer clothing readily accessible. Take a break halfway through the hike for a refreshing lunch before reaching the Mandara Huts. Upon arrival, Take the opportunity to unpack unwind and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee Consider to Maundi Crater for panoramic views of Northern Tanzania and Kenya. Dinner will be served in the early evening at 7 PM and restrooms with running water are available for your convenience.

Day 2: Climb to Horombo hut
>> Begin your day with a 7:30 AM breakfast, followed by packing for your upcoming trek. Camp is to be dismantled by 8:30 AM. Embark on a one-hour hike through picturesque rainforest glades, then transition to an ascending path through heathland, where you'll have the chance to spot towering lobelias and groundsels. As you ascend further, enter open moorlands dominated by small shrubs. Pause midway through your journey for lunch, enjoying breathtaking views of Mawenzi. By 3 PM, you'll arrive at the Horombo Huts, offering glimpses of Kibo's summit. Take time to rest, unpack, and prepare for dinner. Restrooms with running water are conveniently available. It's common to start feeling the effects of altitude at this point. For acclimatization, consider either resting an extra day at Horombo or ascending to a basecamp below Kibo's sub peak, Mawenzi.

Day 3: Horombo hut to Kibo hut
>> Wake up to your usual breakfast routine, and if you're an early riser, take advantage of the opportunity to capture stunning sunrise photos. The initial leg of today's hike traverses through the diminishing heathland, transitioning into a surreal moonscape as you enter the expansive saddle linking Mawenzi and Kibo. During your lunch break and as you navigate this unexpectedly vast saddle, take time to survey the summit ascent up Kibo, which you'll embark on in just a few hours. Pay close attention to any signs of altitude sickness. Please note that there is no running water available at the Kibo Huts.

Day 4: Horombo hut
>> At the Horombo Huts (3,690 m/12,100 ft), you have the option to extend your stay by an extra day. Spend a full day and an additional night at Horombo. During this time, you can choose to either relax at the huts or embark on a leisurely stroll up to the Mawenzi basecamp before returning to the Horombo Huts. This additional day serves to enhance your acclimatization process and deepen your familiarity with the mountain's weather patterns and altitude effects. Following this pause, you'll proceed to the Kibo Huts on your fourth day in preparation for your midnight start towards the summit.

Day 5: Gilmans point/Uhuru Peak to Arusha
>> Rise at midnight to a light breakfast, preparing for your exhilarating summit ascent. The aim is to begin climbing before dawn, ensuring arrival at Uhuru Peak shortly after sunrise. Departure is scheduled for 1 AM, navigating steep switchbacks through scree or possibly snow, aiming to reach Gilman’s Point on the crater rim at 5,861 m/18,640 ft between 5 and 7 AM. Here, you'll be greeted by breathtaking views of the legendary crater and its majestic icecaps. Continuing for another 2 hours along the crater rim, near the renowned snows, you'll reach Kilimanjaro’s true summit, Uhuru Peak, by 9 AM. Standing at Africa’s highest point, it's worth noting that you'd have to travel over 3,000 miles toward the Himalayas to find a higher peak! Following your summit experience, descend back to the Kibo Huts, enjoy a well-deserved lunch, rest, gather your belongings, and traverse the saddle once more to return to the Horombo Huts. Conclude the day with a satisfying dinner and some much-needed sleep!
