Trekking Usambara Mountain in 5 Days

The 5 days Usmabara Mountain (Mtae) Hiking Tour offers an immersive experience in Tanzania's Usambara Mountains, known for lush landscapes, vibrant villages, and breathtaking views. This itinerary takes you through forests, farmland, and traditional villages, culminating in the stunning viewpoints of Mtae.

The Usambara Mountains, part of the Eastern Arc range, are known for their unique biodiversity and distinctive landscape. Located in northeastern Tanzania, these mountains are home to some of the oldest forests in Africa, with plant and animal species that are found nowhere else on earth. The local communities, mostly small villages, have a deep connection with these lands, having practiced agriculture and sustainable living for centuries. The mountains are divided into two ranges, the East Usambara and West Usambara, and the Mtae Hiking Tour focuses on the latter, beginning from Lushoto town and culminating in Mtae.

DAY 1: ARRIVING LUSHOTO TO KISASA WATER FALLS.

On your arriving you will meet Kitano tours and safaris guide, then he will transfer you to the casta way lodge for short break, before heading to waterfalls, after waterfalls back to casta way lodge for food and overnight stay.

DAY 2: LUSHOTO TO LUKOZI VILLAGE.25 KM.

After breakfast you will Start your hiking from Lushoto town to Magamba rainforest via former German Hunting Valley Jaegetal, Uphill. then pass to the Magamba forest. Hiking through Magamba Rainforest gives you the chance to admire rich vegetation both plantation and natural forest, see black and white colobus monkey, velvet monkey and blue monkeys, different bird species, some colorful insects such as butterflies, some reptiles including snakes and endemic Two Horned Usambara Chameleon. Then we will have lunch on a nice picnic site which will be guacamole with chapattis, samosas and different varieties of fruits. After lunch, we will be keeping hike through villages passing Nkundei, Nkinko and then arriving at lukozi.at papa mooze lodge for dinner and overnight stay. on this day is possible also to drive either by public bus or hire the car

DAY 3: LUKOZI TO RANGWI VILLAGE 18KM

After breakfast with packed lunch, you will start hiking pass to villages. See many peaks with fantastic views then arriving to Rangwi village, at catholic mission for overnight stay at. catholic convent.

DAY 4: RANGWI TO MTAE VILLAGE.15KM

After breakfast at Convent, start hiking from Rangwi to Mtae Via Emao, Goka, Shagayu Forest and Sunga Village, walking through the Shagayu Forest gives you another chance to see black and white colobus, blue monkey, both plantation and natural forest that are used both traditionally and economically. After Shagayu Forest around12:30 pm you will get lunch at Limbe Cultural and Historical Heritage. lunch is normally rice, mashed potatoes, beans and fruits. After lunch, we proceed walking at Sunga Village and then we visit Women Pottery Project, where they make handicraft products by using clay soil including cooking pots, sugar pots, plates and ash trays. After pottery we walk for 15min to Magumba View Cottages where we overnight there. When we arrive early at Magumba we will go to Mambo View Point. Magumba View Cottages is the nice place, where you can be able to enjoy nice views and able to see the peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro if there is clear sky. And sun set
