6-Day Rwanda-Uganda Primate Safari - ...

>> You will be picked up from your hotel or Airport in the morning at 7:00 am by the driver guide who will brief you about the trip and later embark on the journey to Nyungwe National Park via the local markets, stunning green rolling hills of Rwanda.

You will have a stop over at the King's Palace where you learn about the vibrant culture of the Rwanda people. Thereafter proceed with the Journey to Nyungwe and upon arrival, you will have lunch break and in the afternoon prepare for a canopy walk. Suspended above a ravine in the lush montane rainforest of Nyungwe National Park, the canopy walkway provides an exhilarating perspective on the ancient treetops and wildlife.

Having escaped the last ice age, the Nyungwe forest is a hotbed of biodiversity. Along the hour’s walk to the canopy walkway from the Uwinka Reception Centre, visitors will see countless butterflies, orchids and colorful birds, including many endemic to the region.

Thereafter drive to the lodge for an overnight stay.

>> Wake up early for breakfast at the lodge and prepare for a long day of activities. The driver will take you for the briefing which starts at Uwinka. After the briefing, park officials will assign you one of the trails depending on the number of participants.
During chimpanzee tracking, expect to spot 12 smaller species of primate including Hamlyn’s Monkeys, owl-faced monkey, Dent’s Mona Monkeys, Angola Colobus, Red-tailed Monkeys, and a medley of colorful bird species like the Rwenzori Turaco, great blue Turaco, and paradise flycatcher and forest hornbills among others. Throughout the activity, the park guides will share information about each of the species encountered – their behavior, feeding and reproductive habits.
After refreshment from the hotel, you will be taken for a nature walk to visit the waterfalls. Nyungwe National Park has over 14 trials for nature walks. The trails are designed to allow visitors to experience the flora and fauna in the park.

>> This morning, you will take a motorboat on one of Africa's Great Lakes that will soak you up the beautiful scenery that surrounds Lake Kivu and is best experienced on the water. It's a lovely way to travel! The motorboat will take you to Cyimbili for the coffee tour. This fascinating tour of a thriving, coffee washing station brings to life the entire process of harvesting, washing, roasting, grinding and preparing some of the best coffee in Rwanda.

Visit Munini, popularly known as Napoleon Island, for a hike to the summit viewpoint and the spectacle of a raucous bat colony. Laiter rewarding swim in the warm, clean water from the kayaks is very refreshing!

Explore Lake Kivu on a peaceful kayaking journey along the shores of the Lake. With an experienced and qualified leader in charge, you will paddle a modern sea kayak or sit-on-top to dip into inlets and across bays as you soak up the spectacular scenery, meet the fishermen, see local fish farms and optionally visit the hot springs.

>> After a cup of Coffee in the morning at 7:00 am, you will meet the driver guide and drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda crossing the Cyanika Border. The drive takes you through stunning Landscapes of the virunga ranges, hospitable local communities and local markets. The journey shall be filled with exciting stop overs for short breaks and picnic. Upon arrival, you will check in at the lodge and later have a short community walk around.

>> After an early breakfast and a briefing by a ranger guide, you will enter the gorilla sanctuary for your adventure. The beauty of this rainforest is spectacular! The area offers dramatic steeply forested landscape and is incredibly dense, but crisscrossed by numerous animal trails allowing access to tourists. The time is taken and the terrain varies with the movements of these great primates. Once you locate a gorilla group, you will be allowed an hour in their presence. The thrill of spending time observing these gentle and endangered giants is an awesome, exciting experience to be long savored.
Return to your lodge. Have your lunch and thereafter check out for a transfer to Lake Bunyonyi. Lake Bunyonyi is framed by lush, green-terraced hills that reach a height of (2,200 – 2,478m) but it’s the 29 islands of various shapes and sizes scattered across the water that make it most magical — you could admire them all day.

Or Alternatively, you could drive to Kampala via Mbarara at Igongo Cultural Center, then stop over Kayabwe for Equator experience and later proceed to Entebbe for Airport drop off.
