Day 3: Shira Plateau-Barranco Camp
>> The third day is a longer and more challenging hike but also crucial for acclimatization. The trail ascends toward Lava Tower (15,190 feet), a significant landmark where you'll stop for lunch. The hike to this point helps your body adjust to the higher altitudes. Afterward, you’ll descend into the Barranco Valley, following the "climb high, sleep low" principle that helps prevent altitude sickness. For those feeling adventurous and if conditions allow, a scramble up Lava Tower can be a rewarding side trip. As you descend, you’ll notice the scenery shift once again, passing through a range of ecological zones.
Hiking Duration: 6-8 hours
Overnight Elevation: 13,044 feet.
- Time: 8-10hrs
- Meals: All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)

Day 4: Barranco Camp-Karanga Camp

The day begins with a challenging climb up the iconic Barranco Wall, a steep rock face that requires a bit of scrambling but rewards you with spectacular views of the surrounding landscape. After conquering the Barranco Wall, the trail becomes a series of ridges and valleys, offering a mix of ascents and descents. As you approach Karanga Camp, the terrain becomes more barren, with fewer plants but expansive views of the mountain’s upper slopes. Depending on the group's condition, there may be time in the afternoon for a short acclimatization hike to help your body further adjust to the altitude.
Hiking Duration: 4-5 hours
Overnight Elevation: 13,106 feet.
- Time: 8-10hrs
- Meals: All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
- Accommodation:Budget camping
Day 5: Karanga-Barafu Camp
>> On day five, you will make your way to Barafu Camp, your final stop before the summit attempt. The route is shorter but still physically demanding, as you continue trekking through a rugged, rocky landscape. You’ll pass over more ridges and valleys, feeling the altitude more as the air thins. Barafu, meaning "ice" in Swahili, reflects the cold, harsh conditions you’ll experience at this elevation. Once you arrive at camp, you'll have an early dinner and attempt to rest for a few hours. The night is short, as you'll wake around 11:00 PM to prepare for the summit point.
Hiking Duration: 3-4 hours
Overnight Elevation: 15,331 feet.
- Time: 8-10hrs
- Meals: All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
- Accommodation:Budget camping
Day 6: Summit-Mweka Camp
>> Summit day begins around midnight. Guided by headlamps, you’ll start the slow, steady climb up the steep and rocky path towards Stella Point. The early hours of the ascent are particularly challenging due to the altitude, the cold, and the darkness. Patience and perseverance are key as you make your way up. After reaching Stella Point at dawn, you’ll continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 19,341 feet. Once you’ve celebrated your achievement and taken photos at the summit, you’ll begin the long descent to Mweka Camp, passing through several ecological zones as you descend. The descent can be tough on the knees, but the sense of accomplishment carries you through.
Hiking Duration: 6-7 hours to the summit, followed by 6-9 hours of descent

Day 7: Mweka Gate-Arusha Town
>> The final day involves a descent through the lush rainforest as you make your way to Mweka Gate (elevation 5,000 feet). The trail is often wet and muddy, but the drop in altitude brings a welcome return to warmer temperatures and denser vegetation. Upon reaching the gate, you’ll stop for lunch and take a moment to thank and say goodbye to the mountain crew that supported your journey. Afterward, you’ll be driven back to Arusha for a hot shower and a well-deserved celebratory dinner to mark the end of your Kilimanjaro adventure.
