>> Your Lake Manyara adventure begins with a 7:00 AM departure from Arusha, driving 130 km southwest toward the Great Rift Valley escarpment. The two-hour journey offers stunning views of the 600-meter-high escarpment wall towering above the valley floor. Enter Lake Manyara National Park around 9:00 AM and explore its lush groundwater forest, home to olive baboons, blue monkeys, and vibrant birdlife like hornbills, eagles, and Fischer’s lovebirds.
Emerging from the forest, the scenery opens to Lake Manyara—an alkaline lake covering two-thirds of the park—often lined with thousands of pink flamingos, pelicans, and storks. Your guide follows tracks through acacia woodlands in search of the park’s famed tree-climbing lions, along with elephants, giraffes, hippos, buffalo, and leopards.
Enjoy lunch at the hippo pool around 1:00 PM, then visit the hot springs (Maji Moto) where steaming 60°C water surfaces amid great wildlife viewing. Exit the park at 4:00 PM.
